Among the many legacies of the Carifesta 1972 experience is the higher-level vision and presentation of a cultural mosaic across boundaries. It is also the cultural innovation that acknowledged ancestors and elders, nurtured the emerging, encouraged the blossoming, and showcased the blooming artistes in all Guyanese cultural endeavors. GCA’s ethos is born of those characteristics and therefore its annual awards reflect them as well.

Starting in 2002 a cross section of the Guyanese society have been recognized and formally acknowledged by the Guyana Cultural Association of New York. An alphabetized list of all past Award recipients is shown below.
